Fly Hire 2015 - Where Will it Take You?

26 DECEMBER 2014 - By Lee Tad

As 2014 draws to its inevitable end and the weather gets colder, your thoughts may well be drifting towards next year's holiday. Planning a trip is all part of the fun of the holiday - picking up some brochures, reading reviews online and starting to plan where you will go is very exciting. Whether you are on a strict budget or treating yourself to the holiday of a lifetime, your 2015 fly hire destination is waiting to be discovered.

Top Destinations

The USA is likely to remain a top fly hire destination. Florida is particularly popular for family holidays because of the theme parks. Hiring a car means that it is easy to combine trips to the many parks with a beach holiday on the warm Gulf Coast. California is another destination where you will be glad of the freedom of having your own transport. Take in the magnificent cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as the dramatic scenery of Yosemite National Park and the Pacific coast. In the autumn New England draws many travellers to witness all the colours of autumn.

South Africa is one of Africa's most popular fly hire destinations. Start your trip in Cape Town before touring the vineyards and beautiful sandy beaches or head off on a safari to view the wildlife in its natural environment.

Australia and New Zealand have much to offer the fly hire traveller. Explore the cities and the beaches of Australia's stunning coastline or take in the breathtaking scenery of New Zealand.

The more adventurous traveller may wish to head for South America to explore the forests, lakes and mountains of Argentina. With a hire car you will discover many secluded beauty spots that will be beyond the reach of other travellers.

Closer to Home

Beautiful scenery, historic cities and sunny beaches can all be found here in Europe. With some destinations just a couple of hours away from the UK by plane, European countries are popular for short breaks. Italy, Spain and France rank as the favourites but some locations further east are catching up fast. When on a break European car hire gives you the opportunity to escape the crowds and explore off the beaten track in the busier holiday spots on the Mediterranean.

Alternatively, why not head north to Scandinavia. In the summer the long hours of daylight provide the perfect opportunity to explore this fascinating region. For a glimpse of the elusive northern lights head north in Scandinavia between September and March.

Planning Checklist

Avoid the last minute panic with your holiday by completing this check list in advance.

  • Passport renewal. If you need to do this it will take at least three weeks and can be longer at busy times.
  • Vaccinations - check if you need these for your destination and make an appointment in plenty of time to get them done.
  • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) - Every member of your family is able to get one free and will mean you can access state-provided health care in European Economic Area countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost or free.
  • Travel insurance.
  • Car hire excess insurance - if you're hiring a car, avoid high excess charges by buying your excess protection in advance.
